Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

“In cases of TBI, neurofeedback is probably better than any medication or supplement.”

—Richard Brown, MD. Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, NY

”Most of the time neurofeedback improves symptoms, or completely eliminates the problem.…There’s no effective drug treatment, no effective treatment at all, except EEG biofeedback.”

—Jonathan Walker, MD., B.C.N., QEEG/D, Board Certified Neurologist

Have you ever hit your head, been in an accident or taken a fall? You may not realize that a seemingly insignificant bump on the head can bring with it a lifetime worth of grief. There are over 5 million people in the US. living with permanent TBI related disabilities. With 2 million new cases reported each year.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is an acceleration-deceleration type injury to the brain caused by a blunt force blow to the head, neck or face. 70-80% cases reported are mild. Yet there is an abundance of evidence that indicate long term debilitating impact on changes in personality and behaviors called post concussive syndrome (PCS). PCS typically include anxiety, depression, irritability, ADD/ADHD, memory and mood changes, pain, headaches, concentration, fatigue and brain fog that persist as a result of the event.

Did you know mild TBI/concussion is the most undiagnosed cause of ADD/ADHD? TBI can often be the hidden epidemic behind the emotional, cognitive and sensory problems that impact our professional, social and family relationships.

Non- Traumatic Brain Injury (NBI)

This is cognitive impairment due to stroke, coma, age related degeneration, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's or multiple sclerosis.

The TBI/Concussion Effect

Brain injury results in the loss of or impaired function to the region(s) affected. Head force trauma sends shock waves that shear and snap nerve fibers and tiny blood vessels. Bruising delicate neural tissue and rendering it paralyzed and more vulnerable to further injury. Consequently, neuronal circuitry and brainwave states are altered facilitating dysregulation that result in unhealthy high theta/beta and delta/beta ratios.

The brains ability to accurately communicate and relay information within those affected areas are diminished and in need of fuel and blood. The precise timings and frequencies needed for cells to properly perform are blocked or weakened  and require stimulation for new growth and repair.

Why LENS Neurofeedback for TBI and NBI?

NeuroBalance assists adults and children with sports related injuries, concussions, head injuries from accidents to return to a normal life.

LENS therapy….

• Is currently considered the preferred neurofeedback therapy for all levels of TBI.

• Can greatly affect neuronal activation and stimulate new pathways required for improved function. The amount of noticeable change varies from person to person and severity of damage incurred.

• Is about 40% faster than most neurofeedback therapy used today. People report better mood, improved clarity and regain a loss of function in a matter of several sessions. More sessions lead to a gradual reassignment of function as dendritic regrowth and glial repair occurs.

• Works in the brain like physical therapy works on the body. One helps to restore function, the other deals with the physical structural damage.

• Can help to optimize function within specific damaged areas.

• Can reduce symptoms caused by the accident.

• Can address the psychological trauma and improve relationships.

• Is a highly effective clinically driven EEG brainwave technology that should be a part of an aggressive rehabilitation program for TBI patients.

NeuroBalance uses LENS neurotherapy to work the damaged brain areas in ways to help support surrounding activation and recruitment to occur. LENS is a therapy to engage the entire brain to get onboard to assist itself. We don’t treat, diagnose any specific conditions. We only act to support the body’s own natural healing efforts by assisting the process of homeostasis.

Why Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) for TBI and NBI?

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a painless, non-invasive procedure that uses red and near infrared light to penetrate tissues up to a certain depth. PBMT shows incredible promise as a therapy for chronic TBI symptoms. Clinical studies with TBI patients showed that LED therapy helped patients improve self-awareness, self-regulation in social function, and sleep quality. Learn more.

*Disclaimer: NeuroBalance specializes exclusively in the use of LENS technology. LENS neurofeedback is a therapeutic modality only. It is NOT intended to be used to diagnose, treat or cure any specific disease or condition. LENS offers a safe, non-medicinal alternative approach for healing to occur. NeuroBalance assists the body to naturally manage the symptoms associated with many chronic conditions.
